History
The American Liberal Party was initially founded by James Order, John Darby, Bruce Hill, Ted Ddet and MediocreLucca. These five made up the original ALNC with James Order as the Director and John Darby as the Vice Director. It was created due to the impending death of the Labor Party to provide the public with an alternative left-wing party in the American political system. They quickly began gaining ground in terms of membership when John Darby took a sudden leave of public life. This left Bruce Hill with the position of Vice Director. As they were gearing up for the federal elections, the ALP began making up ground converting current members of legislative bodies and winning special elections. In their most recent election, the ALP won the most House and Senate seats of any party competing even though they lost the Presidency.

d.a.barchipelago joined AGS on January 12th, 2019. He joined the Progressive Party immediately. He served as a Senator and MP, and was a founding member of the Labor Party. He is commonly known as Barch.

__TOC__

Political Beliefs
D.a.barchipelago is a green Moderate Leftist, with large libertarian streaks. He controversially supported LOTRcare (public option) , but would prefer a national health service over it. He fights for democractic integrity, supports campaign funding caps, anti-gerrymandering measures and is a prominent critic of Electoral College, and has made many attempts to repeal it. If you ask him which issue is most important to him, he will always say protecting the planet.

Jefferson Parliament
Early on, barch joined the Progressive Party and the Justice Progressives. This allowed him, in a suprise upset, to beat Cool dad™ in the Jefferson Parliament Progressive Primary, meaning he was top of the ticket. Due to low all round campaigning (not from barch though) he ended up being the only Progressive elected, making him automatically minority leader.

He was elected successfully in the elections following the communist exodus, and for a third term in the following June elections.

The following August he failed to win re-election to Parliament, which meant for the first time ever, there was no Labor or Progressive member in Parliament. However, the Anarchist .E won her election, and promptly permanently made Thanos her proxy, so while not an official member, there was 'technically' a Laborite in parliament.

He was successfully elected to Parliament in October, and for the first time was part of the majority caucus with Hombre and hopeful candidate. He was elected speaker, and oversaw a fruitful session.

In December he was elected to Parliament yet again.

Federal Government
He was nominated by ProgressiveMinded as his proxy in the house. This allowed him to gain some legislative experience.

Following his proxying for ProgressiveMinded, he ran for JF-4 against Putbye. He narrowly lost.

Following the Second Communist Exodus, d.a.barchipelago founded the Labor Party with Lohengramm, Matthew Hale, codegreen and MichiganLefty.

He then ran, simultaneously, for Senate and Parliament, and got elected to both.

He was on the list for possible July Presidential election candidates, but discounted a presidential bid, and instead sought re-election.

He was successfully re-elected to his Senate seat, even though all the polls predicted that Valerie would take it from him.

He ran for Vice President in the November federals, and was successfully elected with MichiganLefty as President. As Vice President, he wasn't active much, nor was the administration in general. On January 18, 2020, he was sworn in by Chief Justice Lamport as President of the United States, the day following President MichiganLefty's historic resignation. President Barch made a few press releases and signed a few bills, along with one Executive Order withdrawing troops from Non-NATO nations, but he quickly fell inactive. A joint resolution was proposed by Representative John Boehner, H.J.Res.19, to impeach Barch for inactiveness. It passed the House of Representatives on February 2, 2020, with 17 Representatives in favor, and 2 abstaining. He was convicted in the Senate with all six Senators voting to convict him, after a three day trial. This makes Barch the third President in history to be impeached and the first to be convicted on all charges.

Parties
When Barch first joined, he joined the Progressive Party. He was a member of the Justice Progressive movement, which meant he was elected to the PNEC. Upon the disbanding of the Progressives, he was a founding member of the Labor Party, and sat on the LNC for over seven months. He ran for party leadership in November, and became Party Chair, with Hale as his Vice Chair. He chose not to run for a second term in January, but remained a member. When the Labor Party disbanded, he became an independent.

After Impeachment
After being impeached, Barch remained inactive for two months. After he came back, he decided not to re-enter politics, and instead ran the news organisation ABC. He also was the main driving force behind the lobbying reform, and became a lobbyist himself

ABarch:

The 2nd Communist Exodus occurred after the February Federal Election. This election resulted in Lamport's (R) victory over Sparkle (CP), MichiganLefty (PP) and NotAName (PP, no nomination) in the race for President. However, this election nearly lead to a Republican/Populist majority in the house. There was use of tailcoat modifiers for the first time ever, which the communists denounced as an attempt to rig the election against them. This lead to them leaving en masse.

With them, many other prominent, non-communist members left. The most notable example of this is was Head Mod Cody, who revealed that he had been using an alt, Bitwise. Other members that left included NotAName and EhManana.

It lead to about a 40% less messages, or more, and about 30% less active members. On the bright side, it meant there were much less shitshows. But still a lot.

Aftermath
Following the exodus, MaTh became Head Mod, and CoolDad and DisguisedJet719 became mods. This meant five out of six senate seats were up for election in the following Specials.

The Progressive Party was immediately disbanded, and in its place the Labor party was formed, in an attempt to unite the left, and the few former communists that remained in the server, and generally just to reignite the left.

The left-wing of the server suffered badly in the next elections. The communists had made up a significant portion of the left, and in the following state elections all governors and state legislatures became Republican. The Republicans managed to gain all five seats of the Dixie Assembly, as well as a supermajorty in the house. However, Labor managed to hold the Senate, with all three of codegreen, D.a.barchipelago and Trash winning their races.

The left also suffered badly in the April Federal Elections, when they lost the Senate, as Trash didn't stand for re-election, and Mega left the politics on the final night of campaigning.

Return to two parties
The exodus brought a return to two parties. Before there had been four main parties, the Republicans, the Progressives, the Communists and the American party. Following there was only the Republicans and the Labor Party. This two party system was heavily dominated by the GOP in the 2019 March State Elections and the April Federals, but became more even by the June State elections.

Members Union
The Members union was founded by Lohengramm in order to better communicate disagreements between mods and members, and communicate more clearly to mods the wishes of members.

Created in December 2018 by Jason Miner, ABC is the longest running news organisation within AGS. It is currently run by D.a.barchipelago.

Team
Various people have served on the ABC team. These include but are not limited to:

D.a.barchipelago (current de facto head)

Jason Miner (former head, retired)

Adam Hello (retired)

Andrew Glaze (retired)

Godbout (retired)

Justin (head in name only, de facto retired)

ComputerGuy (de facto retired)

History
Miner leadership
Initially, ABC was heavily right wing biased: it only had Republican party members, and the founder and owner was notorious in his partisanship. It constantly predicted elections wildly in favour of the right. Miner kept leaving and re-joining ABC, leading to short gaps in his tenure which were usually filled by Glaze.

Glaze leadership
Glaze led ABC in the short periods in-between and after Miner's leadership. His main contribution was making Justin head of ABC

Early to mid Justin leadership
Justin took over ABC on April 29th

Barch on Justin's leadership of ABC:

"Justin was the man that made ABC. He turned it around from a partisan dump to an influential, and an organisation that was widely recognised as fair and accurate, with good quality content"

Justin created multiple shows, such as the Jacob's report, welcomed Lampolling into ABC news after Lamport became president, and interviewed many people, such as [Butterlands]], Garland and others. He was also responsible for the hiring of Barch, who became ABC's polling and political analyst. Justin reignited activity in other members, and encouraged them to write news coverage and interview candidates for various elections.

Late Justin leadership

He was also responsible for the hiring of Barch, who became predictions and polling manager. He reignited activity in other members, and encouraged them to write news coverage and interview candidates for various elections.

The 2nd Communist Exodus occurred after the February Federal Election. This election resulted in Lamport's (R) victory over Sparkle (CP), MichiganLefty (PP) and NotAName (PP, no nomination).

The Progressive Party, was a center-left to left-wing political party that was founded as a alternative to the Democratic Party and the Communist Party. It was disbanded after the Second Communist Exodus, and its members largely moved to the Labor Party

History
The Progressive Party was founded by Butterlands after he became dissatisfied with the Communist Party's focus on the Northern State, the inability of the Democratic and Communist parties to cooperate with each other, and the politicisation of non-political institutions like the Supreme Court. Butterlands ran as a Progressive in the June House elections.

After the Democratic Coup, many members of the Democratic Party fled to the Progressives. This led to a huge Progressive victory in the August Elections, and pushed the Democratic Party to the status of third party.
