The term Libertarian consensus refers to a general agreement among the political left and right with respect to economic and foreign policy: it represented a commitment to reduce spending, move towards a single tax on land value, pay down the debt and devolve economic decision-making to the states and against foreign intervention. The consensus was forged by President Lamport and went essentially unchallenged between March, 2019 and October, 2020. It was broken in December, some 22 months later, when the political left insisted on a $15 minimum wage, passed a $560 billion deficit and took a more hawkish position on China. Following Lamport, it survived the LOTR, Patty, MichiganLefty, d.a.barchipelago, Valerie and Garland Administrations.
