Jacobin Coalition

The Jacobin Coalition was a loose coalition between the Green Democratic Party and the Radical Labor Party during the First Congress. The sim's left entered into the coalition to establish majority control in Congress and create a united front against the right-wing. The Radical Labor Party withdrew from the coalition after Libertarians leaked evidence of an alleged plot by Politophile to work against the Poke administration's agenda.

Before the First Election

In the run-up to the first federal elections, the RLP made several deals with other parties to ensure that they would be able to secure as many House seats as possible. In one such deal, the Green Democrats agreed to enter into a coalition. Both parties agreed to the following terms:

1. The parties would conduct a joint primary for president of the United States.

2. The Green Democratic Party would run no candidates in the North, and the parties would run a joint House list in the South on the Green Democratic ticket.

3. In the event of a Jacobin victory, the president would appoint members of both parties to their cabinet.

4. The parties would draft a joint platform.

After both sides agreed to the terms, they created a discord server as a method of communication between the parties' leaders.

In Congress

In the elections of February 2018, the Jacobin Coalition secured a majority in both houses of Congress and the presidency. Despite this early success, the coalition quickly lost momentum. Both parties, having never produced a joint platform, began to question why the coalition even existed. Poke's first three executive orders further alienated the Green Democrats, despite the fact that most members of the RLP also opposed the orders. Many members of the Green Democratic Party began to feel as if they were being used as pawns by the more powerful RLP. This led to the rejection of several cabinet appointees and push back against President Poke's agenda in Congress.

Despite the loss of support, the coalition continued for several weeks.

Politogate and Breakdown of the Coalition

Politophile, the Chairman of the Green Democrats, entered talks with the Libertarian Party on the matter of voting deals sometime during the First Congress. A member of the Libertarian Party leaked evidence of these talks to RLP leadership on March 23. Out of the resulting confusion, a theory that the Green Democrats were planning on impeaching President Poke became widespread within the RLP. Later that evening, the RLP leadership voted to withdraw from the coalition.

By the time the parties had formally severed their relationship, inter-party relations were worse than they had ever been. In context, this event can be seen as a prelude to the larger rivalry between the RLP and the GDP which lasted into June of 2018, when the RLP--by then named the Communist Party--dissolved itself.
