The term new tax consensus refers to a major shift in federal tax policy between January and June, 2019, led by President Politophile who passed a constitutional amendment to allow a land value tax, President Lamport who introduced the tax and abolished the income tax in his first budget and Senator JMP who passed a constitutional amendment to bar its reimposition. While initially opposed by the Labor Party, the shift was soon accepted by all major parties and politicians, many of whom began to commit not to act against it, forging a national consensus on the issue.
