Valerie as Chief of Staff

Valeriegate was a political scandal during the Lamport Administration in which Valerie was Chief of Staff. In June, 2019, the President and his Administration were working to pass their Declaration and Authorization Sunset Act to make war less likely by mandating regular re-authorization by Congress. The measure encountered some opposition within and without the Republican Party, especially from System and Andrew Glaze, who held office as Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Secretary of Agriculture. As Valerie attempted to secure the passage of the bill, she suggested they would be dismissed from the Cabinet if they remained in opposition and this caused a scandal, with some characterizing her conduct as corrupt or coercive. In the aftermath, System was indeed dismissed from his post. President Lamport did not bend to calls to dismiss his Chief of Staff and Valerie defended her action as necessary to guard against a return to perpetual war.

An amended bill, the Congressional War Authority Regulation Act, was passed and signed into law later that month.
