Garland was born in New York, New York, the son of Cory Garland, an Electrical Engineer and Maria Garland, a Teacher. In 1985, the Garlands moved from New York to Boston, Massachusetts, where Lyndon attended elementary school at St. Francis Day School and highschool at Cambridge Preparatory Academy. Garland was subsequently hired by Merrill Lynch, working in the investment management department, as a portfolio manager until 2014.

By 2005, Garland had founded Brandeis LLC, a digital media platform based primarily on the upper east side of Manhattan. Garland was the President and CEO of Brandeis from 2005 to 2019, when it was sold to Chinese investors. Based on public information, Garland holds a considerable net worth of $150 million based in large part to his time at Brandeis. He has submitted legislation successfully closing the former School of the Americas, which he believes were responsible for enabling American backed authoritarian leaders throughout the cold war to pursue campaigns of terror of political rivals and dissidents. Garland also supports declassification of documents related to American involvement in the "Dirty Wars" specifically its involvement in the 1973 overthrow of Chilean President Salvador Allende and the 1968 Brazillian military coup

Personal Life

Garland is married to Estefânia "Stephanie" Chaves Fernandes, a private practice physician in Kent County, Rhode Island. The couple were introduced by a mutual friend during a business trip to São Paulo, Stephanie is Brazilian-American. Stephanie has been considered to be a vital part of the numerous political campaigns, including Lyndon's 2019 Presidential Bid. The couple has two children, Maria and Christopher, twins born in 2010.
