The Curse of Lamport is a widely publicized pattern of no person being able to stay in office for an entire term after Chief Justice Lamport has held it. Currently, this applies to the Speaker of the House and President of the United States. Mainly, the reason no one has been able to stay in an office for an entire term after Lamport because of resignation due to public scandal, leaving someone else to fulfill the rest of the term.
