Martin Walks is the incumbent Representative for the North's second district. He currently serves as the Majority Whip, since November 12, 2020. Previously, Walks has served in the Northern House of Delegates, where he was Deputy Chair. Walks is a member of the Social Democratic Party.

October 2020

In the October State Elections, Walks ran against Northern Secretary of Energy Gray, Former Representative Moonguy, and Former Representative Dan Reinhard. Walks won 41.19-38.12-20.67-0 against Gray, Moonguy, and Reinhard in that order.

Tenure

Walks was sworn in on October 8, 2020. He was then elected Deputy Chair.

Election Reform

Walks sponsored the Northern RCV amendment, which enacted Ranked Choice Voting in the North. He also sponsored the 2020 Voting Reform Act, which, among other things, implemented Automatic Voter Registration.

Energy

Walks sponsored SANTA, which provided funding to research into Molten Salt Power plants.

Criminal Justice

Walks sponsored the Northern Humane Prison act.

October 2020 Special

Walks ran in the October 2020 Special election to fill the seat left vacant by Former Speaker Matthew Hale. He ran against Fmr. Reps XRT-17 and William Lawyer. He won 51.30-32.78-15.92 against XRT and Lawyer in that order.

November 2020

Walks ran for re-election in the November 2020 Federal election. He ran against Anne Tifa and Richard Holland. Walks won 72.26-27.74-0 against Tifa and Holland in that order.

January 2021

Walks ran unopposed for re-election in the January 2021 Federal election.

Tenure

Walks was sworn in on October 19, 2020. After his re-election in the General election, walks was named Deputy Majority Leader, or Majority Whip.

Healthcare

Walks voted in favor of the Public Option Act.

Welfare reform

Walks voted in favor of the SNAP Reform Act and TANFRA.

Minimum Wage

Walks voted in favor of the Living Wage Act.

Immigration

Walks sponsored the Voting Freedom Act, which would decriminalize immigrant voting.

COVID

Walks has voted in favor of many COVID Relief bills, including the Federal Budget For Coronavirus Recovery and Fiscal Transparency Act.

Energy

Walks sponsored the Studying Coal Conversion Act, which would provide research funding for the conversion of coal power plants to cleaner energy. He also cosponsored the Geological and Geophysical Exploration Prohibition Act, and voted in favor of the GREG Act and the New Extraction Limitations Act.
